East Lancashire Railway in the 1990s
East Lancashire Railway in the 1990s
In the 1990s, the East Lancashire Railway transformed itself as it went from using small industrial locomotives to ex-British Railways steam locos to haul passengers up and down their section of the former Bury to Bacup line. The photographs featured here document this period, primarily featuring the many different ex-British Rail locomotives that operated on the railway throughout the year – though the occasional diesel will also appear. The photographs here show how the railway became one of the premier preserved lines in the country.
