The Electric Tramways of East Kent

Dover was one of the first towns in Britain to have electric trams, its system dating back to 1897. Thanet followed suit in 1901. The two systems are the subject of this new book by Dr Harley. They worked well with each other until the mid-1930s when buses took over. Residents and visitors were obliged to lose environmentally friendly electric traction in place of exhaust fumes.
